The Church is Entrusted with the Truth of the Gospel: The church is Called to Holy Living

God has entrusted the gospel with the church. Our high calling is holy living. Join Conforming To The Truth as we read through the book of Titus. we would love for you to join us in reading Truth!God called Paul as an apostle, He sent him as a messenger of Jesus Christ and entrusted him with that gospel. The word “entrusted” sticks out to me in this first chapter. I remember in 2 Timothy that Paul told Timothy to entrust the gospel to faithful men.

“The things which you heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2

In this letter to Titus, I believe Paul to be doing the same thing. He has left Titus on the Isle of Crete and entrusted him to set in order what remained or correct the wrong doctrine and practices of the churches. According to chapter 1:10-13 Paul already knew about these men who needed to be corrected and he describes them as: Continue reading

Guarding The Treasure: The Good News of Salvation

Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. 2 Timothy 1:14

Difficult days are upon us. Men are progressing for bad to worse. Will you join us in a Bible Study in 2 Timothy to learn what the scriptures teach us to look for and how we can stand in these difficult times? The days of Paul’s ministry are coming to an end. He finds himself in a cold cell {4:13} in chains {2:9}with no hope of deliverance {4:6}. According to 2 Timothy 1:15 all who were in Asia turned away from Paul except Onesiphorus who refreshed him and was not ashamed of his chains.

Paul is penning the last letter he will be guided to write. He addresses it to Timothy his true child in the faith. He encourages Timothy but at the same time urges him to stand firm in the faith, and to join him in suffering for the gospel. He exhorts him not to be ashamed of the gospel  nor to be ashamed of him because he is in chains.  I can hear him speaking to Timothy as a father or mother speaks to his or her own child as he says these words,  “Timothy I am in prison but the gospel of Jesus Christ is not imprisoned it is not chained. I am enduring all things for the sake of the elect, those chosen by God before the foundation of the world so that they may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus. Timothy, the gospel must be preached for the sake of the elect. Do not be timid, kindle afresh the spiritual gift that has been given to you and go forth with the true gospel of Jesus Christ.” Continue reading

{ What if IT is Meant To Be Broken}

“Let’s Talk Relationships”

It is so easy to slip into fix it mode. But what if it is meant to be broken?

Alison approached me  and asked me to pray about writing an article for her series, “Let’s Talk Relationships” I prayed about it and thought about this a lot. One question kept coming to my mind as I prayed about it, “What if IT is meant to be broken?” You may have come to this series  with the question “Why”?

  • Why  are relationships broken?
  • Why is this world so broken?
  • Why can’t I fix this?

You may have come here and are in the midst of a broken relationship looking for a way to fix it.  I have had the same questions. I have had severed friendships and family relationships that have fallen apart. I have searched the internet reading blog posts trying to find the answers to life’s brokenness and problems. I have run to my friends with an expectation of getting an answer! I praise God for friends and the internet. God in His sovereignty has placed people and the internet in our lives for a reason but they are not the answer to the questions we have. Nor do these things in themselves meet our ultimate needs.  Will you join me over at Life of Scope as I attempt to answer the question, ” What if IT is meant to be broken?”

Conduct in the Household of God: The Pillar and Support of the Truth

 The church is the pillar and support of the truth.

I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you before long; but in case I am delayed. I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, the pillar and support of the truth. 1 Timothy 3:14-15

Do you know what the instructions to the church are? Do you know the qualifications and function of the elder? Join Conforming To The Truth as we explore the book of 1 Timothy to learn the answers to these questions and more.Two things to notice in these verses:

  1. The church is God’s possession
  2. Believers are members of God’s household.

The “church” is not the building it is the people, the true believers that make up  the household of God.  Because it is His church we are to bow the knee to His instructions. True believers may not understand everything that is written in the word of God but a true believer will stand on the truths of the word regardless of whether they understand them or not. We are called for the purpose of contending for the faith which brings glory and honor to our King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, who deserves honor and glory forever and ever. {Reading the Book of 2 Thessalonians~Week 6}

To_____________________Church: Grace and Peace to You!

Bible Study 2 Thessalonians Reading PlanI left the title blank so that you can mentally add the name of your own church. In my case, the title would read as follows: To Covenant Grace Bible Church: Grace to You and Peace from God our Father nd the Lord Jesus Christ. The book or letter 2 Thessalonians we believe was written 4-6 months after Paul penned his first letter to the church in Thessalonica. The message that he was writing is just as timely for the church today as it was when he penned it all those years ago.

When Paul wrote this second letter to the church in Thessalonica he was still  full of joy and praising God for their perseverance and faith in the midst of persecutions and affliction. In the midst of their suffering their faith was growing and also their love for the brethren.  Paul spoke proudly of the believers among the other churches. As the churches persecution and suffering increase in our day, I pray that we  exhibit the same love and faith that this church did! Continue reading
