According to the Bible What is the Chief End of Man?

The book of Romans is one of the most comprehensive books on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For the next several chapters Paul is going to lay out in great detail how depraved people are, and the wrath of God that rests on them. But tucked very boldly in-between his explanation of mans standing before God he will bring in God’s grace that comes through His Son Jesus Christ.

When we go into our homes and into the world with the gospel we must go with a balanced presentation of its content. We cannot on one hand only present the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and on the other hand present the wrath of God that rests on a depraved human race.  The scriptures teach Both of these truths. In our presentation of the Gospel we must teach both. One without the other is a false Gospel!

I am afraid that we live in a day where sin is being swept under the rug and grace is being mis-used. Believe me when I say that I am all for grace, because I am in great need of it. But you and I, and all the world, need to know what grace is and why we need it. When we come to an understanding of who we are and what God has done for His beloved through Jesus Christ we have a greater understanding of how AMAZING GRACE really is!

Our journey on the Roman road will begin by asking one question,

What is the chief end of man?

blackboard-913645_1280

TEN SCRIPTURES THAT TEACH THIS TRUTH:

  1. “Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” {1 Corinthians 10:31}
  2. “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.” {Revelation 4:11}
  3. “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. {Romans 11:36}
  4. ” Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Christ Jesus, to whom belongs the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” {1 Peter 4:11}
  5. “Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come before Him; worship the LORD in holy array.”{1 Chronicles 16:29}
  6. “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”{Deuteronomy 6:5}
  7. “Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.” {Psalm 73:25}
  8. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” {Psalm 73:26}
  9. “Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I will say rejoice.” {Philippians 4:4}
  10. ” Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; for the LORD God is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.” {Isaiah 12:2}

We can look sround us and know from how the world looks in our day, and what the Scriptures teach that man does not glorify God nor do they enjoy Him. If we are honest Beloved, there are many more things in this world that give us joy and pleasure and not God Himself.

Man is in need of a Savior! We know why man needs a Savior, “He does not glorify God nor enjoy Him.” Let’s dig into the book of Romans a little deeper and answer these questions:

  • Who provides salvation?
  • What was required for salvation?
  • How is salvation received?

I would like to challenge us both to sit with our Bibles open and look for scripture verses that command us to Glorify our God and enjoy Him forever.

Start a notebook. Every time you sit to read or study write down the verses that you see that teach this truth.

I would love to hear the verses that you found. Please share them here with us. Let’s Glorify God and enjoy Him forever!

The question, “What is the chief end of man.” was taken from The westminster Shorter Catechisms. A Catechism is a teaching. These Catechisms were developed to teach the members of the church the doctrines of the Bible. There are 107 of these teachings, all with Scripture references. Romans Study { Introduction}

hike-665940_1920

Welcome to our first online study! I am so excited to walk through the book of Romans with you. From September 7th-November 13th, we will be walking through the first three chapters of this book. My goal and desire is to work through all 16 chapters! Yes, you heard it right, 16 chapters! This journey will take several weeks, but it is one that I believe will be well worth the work and effort put into it. Do not worry, I will be here with you all the way:

Praying for you,

Encouraging you,

 Learning right beside you!

The Purpose of Bible Study:

To know God, the One True God. To have an abiding relationship with Jesus Christ and to live a transformed life. To teach the gospel to ourselves so that we grow in grace and truth. To share the gospel with a lost and dying world.

The book of Romans is a clear explanation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As children of the most high God we need to dedicate ourselves to the study of His word. It is as important to preach the gospel to ourselves as it is to preach and teach it to a lost and dying world. The Gospel today, just as it was in the day of Paul, is under attack. Only a true and clear explanation of the gospel can refute those who contradict it. I believe Romans is a great place to start.

 How this works:

I said earlier I would be right beside you! For 10 weeks (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), I will write a post that I pray will help explain the verses we have been studying through for the week. These posts will not walk through each question. It will give an overview and application for the verses studied.

Prayer, Observation, Interpretation, and Application will get us through this study.

Lessons:

  • Your first lesson will be posted in a PDF format on Monday, August 31st. On the 31st, I will also post a PDF for all 10 lessons. You choose how you would like to print them. Every Monday at the end of that post there will be a PDF copy for the next weeks lesson. ( You can choose not to print the lessons. Just write the answers in a note book).
  • I greatly encourage you to work through the lessons and not just read the posts. This is your time with God. Let Him teach you and train you!
  • Each lesson is written to take you through each verse of every chapter. Sometimes you will be taken to other parts of Scripture to help with the interpretation of the text. Remember, Scripture interprets Scripture!
  • We will also be doing word studies. You may be asking, “Why do I need to know what a word means?” Word studies get us deeper into the word of God. Sometimes we think we know what a word means, and we really do not. It has been my experience that after I have studied a word, I have a greater understanding of what is being taught. I have also learned more and more of the Amazing Grace of God! It is well worth the time and effort to look words up. I recommend using a Strongs Concordance. If you do not have one, no problem. I have placed a link for one  in the side bar of this site.
  • Each lesson is designed to be worked through in a week. You decide how you want to walk through the questions. I do recommend spacing the questions out. We do not want to rush through the word. We need to ponder and pray for teaching from the Holy Spirit.

Reading Plan:

I want to encourage you to read through the book of Romans each week. Daily reading will familiarize you with the context of the book. If you read this book weekly, by the end of the study you may have memorized the entire book! How wonderful would that be. You will be able to say with the Psalmist:

“Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I may not sin against you.”

Psalm 119:11

  • Here is a suggested reading plan. You may also download and copy this plan. I will be reminding you to read through the book each week.

{Live Well-Pleasing in the World~A Study in Titus 2}

 FREE STUDY IN THE BOOK OF TITUS. INFO AT THE END OF THIS POST!

What does it look like to live well-pleasing in the world? We are doing a Bible Study in the book Titus and the apostle Paul is teaching us how to live well pleasing. Do you remember when you were younger and you were getting ready to go out with your family maybe to dinner at a friends house or to a play…and  your parents would say to you, “now ___________ insert your name. I want you to be on your best behavior.” I have said that many times to my own children. We expect our children to honor and respect  those whom they come into contact with. It is no different with our Christian walk. When we go out into the world there is a specific behavior that we are called to. We are to be well-pleasing to God first and then to those whom we come into contact with. Continue reading

{Male Headship and its Perfect Design~Titus 2}

 FREE STUDY IN THE BOOK OF TITUS. INFO AT THE END OF THIS POST!

Did you know that it i God's perfect design for the wife to submit to her own husband.? Join with us as we do a Bible study in the book of Titus and learn about God's perfect design for marriage.In my post on God’s Description of a Godly Woman described in Titus 2. We touched very briefly on male headship. I want to write a post today that goes deeper into this subject. I believe male headship and the subject of submission are greatly misunderstood and twisted, mainly by those who are of this world. But it is also, I am afraid, not modeled and taught in many churches. Feminism has walked right  in the front door of the church and has appeared as something good. Remember what the word says about satan,

” He appears as an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:14

{Bible Study in the Book of Titus}

Showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.  Titus 2:19

Book Cover for Titus Bible StudyLearning to adorn the doctrine or teachings of God is to read and study His word so that we may learn what is pleasing to Him. When we study we show ourselves approved unto God which brings glory and honor to His great name. Through prayer and study, we ask God how we are to act and behave in this world and in the body of Christ. God’s word guides us and teaches us how to adorn or walk in a manner worthy of our calling. Titus is a small book but is packed with much doctrine and teachings. We learn how men and women are to function in the church. We learn God’s standards for selecting a godly elder. We are given instruction as to how to conduct ourselves in the workplace and how we are to act towards our government and those outside the church. When we learn the truths from the word of God  and conform our lives to the teachings in this book the doctrine of God will be worn well and God will be glorified in us.  Continue reading
