{Reading the book of Philemon~Week 10}

From Slave of Sin to Freedom in Christ Jesus

Have you read the book of Philemon lately? It is a small book with large Truth. Please join Lisa @conformingtothetruth as we read through this book learning about grace and forgiveness. Philemon is one book that I have never heard anyone preach, teach, or even mention!

I have to admit I have read this book many times but this time, God has opened my eyes to a greater understanding of what this small one chapter book holds!  This little book is a picture of God’s grace, mercy , and forgiveness which  He bestows on the captives and sets them free.

It is also a reminder to us to show mercy, grace, and forgiveness. For we once were in need of God’s grace and mercy!

why the Letter was written

Paul wrote this letter to Philemon concerning his runaway slave Onesimus. According to this letter, Onesimus ran away from Philemon to Rome where he encountered the apostle Paul. While in Rome Onesimus became a Christian a beloved brother. Philemon 1:10:

I appeal to you for my child Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my imprisonment.

But if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge that to my account;

We learn in verse 18 that Onesimus had run away from Philemon, he had wronged him and may have taken something from him. According to Roman Law Philemon had the right to put him to death. Paul is appealing to Philemon to show mercy and forgiveness to Onesimus. Continue reading

Did You Know God is the One Who Justifies?

Walking Through Romans

“In Need of a Savior”

Week-10 Day-3

This post goes along with the Free lessons offered at the end of this article.

Wednesday we looked at the justification and redemption that comes through Jesus. We learned that these were free gifts of grace which God sent through His son. Those who believe in the work of Christ and place their God given gift of faith in Him receive these marvelous grace gifts!

Today we are going to look at Romans 3:25-30. From these verses we will learn what propitiation is! Big word, I know, but one we need to know and understand. I am a believer in understanding the meaning of words! I have learned so much about God’s amazing grace by digging in and learning the meaning of a word following that word through scripture  and seeing how it applies to the gospel of Jesus Christ. God’s grace is truly amazing! I pray you see and understand more of it through the study of this section of Romans!

Romans 3:24-25: “Being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate  His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed:”

The text says God displayed Christ publicly as a propitiation  in His blood. Let’s look at the meaning of propitiation and see how it applies to the gospel message.

Are You Foolishly Worshipping a god Instead of The God?

Walking Through Romans

In Need of A savior

Week-4 Day-2

Have you ever met a fool? You know that person who talks a big talk but after a little while you can see that their actions do not reflect the words that come out of their mouth. They have made a profession of wisdom but that is all it is just a profession, just words no action. I have been there, actually all of humanity has been there, or is there at this very moment.

{Boldly Proclaiming the Gospel~Study in Titus 2}

 Free study in the book of titus.info at the end of this post

Where it All Begins!

Are you boldly proclaiming the gospel? Paul was not ashamed to boldly proclaim of the gospel! Join Conforming to the Truth as we do a Bible study in the book of Titus. Let's learn the gospel and boldly proclaim it to the world!In Titus chapter 1 we met the apostle Paul. He boldly announced, with great authority, his calling, and chosing by God to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. After much teaching in chapters 1 and 2 Paul ends Titus 2 with the teaching of the work of Jesus Christ. In chapter 3 he expounds even more on that same work, “The Gospel.” Without Jesus Christ we would have no need of all the instruction that has been given by the apostle Paul. Without the cross we would still be dead in our trespasses and sins. There would be no church. There would be no kingdom of priests. But praise be to God He is  making a Kingdom for His Son Jesus Christ. We are His Bride and He is making us ready for the marriage supper of the Lamb! Continue reading

Jesus in my Daily Struggles

girl-843076_1280

I would like to say I do not struggle.

Boy, is that a prideful thing to say! I should be honest with myself and most importantly with Christ. If I did not struggle I would not need Him. Oh, do I need Him… because I struggle with many things.

I believe the biggest thing I struggle with is insecurity. (I am even struggling with insecurity as I write this post.)

Maybe that is why I get angry.

Maybe that is why I do not feel joyful.

Maybe that is why I do not feel loved.

Maybe that is why…

God is teaching me,in the middle of my struggles, who I am in Christ. He is showing me and reminding me that He is  there with me every step of the way.

When I show my anger: Jesus shows me patience. He disciplines me.

Love is patient, love is kind… 1 Corinthians 13:4

My son do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when when you are reproved by Him. For those the Lord loves He disciplines. Hebrews 12:5-6

When I do not feel joyful: He reminds me that He is my joy.

The joy of the Lord is my strength.Nehemiah 8:10

When I feel like no one loves me: Jesus says, “I love you. I gave My life for you.”

But in all things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37

Christ  loved us and gave Himself up for us. Ephesians 5:2

When I feel like running and hiding: Jesus says, “I Am your strong tower, I Am your shelter.”

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer. My God, My rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:1-2

When I struggle with a thought: He reminds me that He was tempted in every way as me.

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weakness, but One who has been tempted in  all things as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15

I was never promised a perfect walk, or that I would never suffer. I am promised that one day when Christ returns to take me home with Him I will be glorified, and never struggle with anything again. But while I am here on this earth I am going to struggle with insecurities and sin.

There is another promise, He says, “He will never leave us nor forsake us.” While we walk here on this earth, learn from Him, be joined to Him, be yoked to Him. He is gentle and in Him we find rest for our souls.

Matthew 11:29-30: Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. My yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Today I struggle, tomorrow I will struggle, but I know that Jesus loves me and that He will see me through each struggle.

When I show my insecurity Jesus says, “You are mine.” My identity is in Him!

Are  you struggling? Do not hide it. Put your struggles in the hands of the one who will carry it for you. Learn from Him. Know that your identity is in Him!

I am praying that God will teach you these things:)

Learning Beside You,

Lisa:)
