Romans Bible Studies {Lessons 1-11}

WILL YOU TAKE A 2016 BIBLE STUDY CHALLENGE?

All men are in need of a Savior. The book of Romans teaches this truth along with the truth that God in Christ has sent His grace. Please follow Conforming To The Truth as we do an inductive Bible study in Romans. These lessons are free to you.

It is easy to get caught up in making New Years resolutions, after all, everyone else is making them. Who wants to be left out? NOT ME!

But if you are anything like me you make resolutions for the upcoming year only to get maybe half way through the year and stop! Can I get a witness!  I honestly have stopped making them. Who wants to set themselves up for failure anyway? I try to be disciplined, I really do, but I fail more often than not.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF KNOWING THE LAW OF GOD?

DAY-1| WEEK-1| LESSON 11

texture-636833_1280

After spending much time teaching, by the works of the Law no man will be justified, Paul stresses that God is the justifier of those who have placed their gift of faith in His Son Jesus Christ. Now a question arises, ” Do we then nullify the Law through faith?” Paul answers that question with a resounding, “May it never be! A thousand times no! On the contrary, we establish the Law.”

Wednesday we looked at the justification and redemption that comes through Jesus. We learned that these were free gifts of grace which God sent through His son. Those who believe in the work of Christ and place their God-given gift of faith in Him receive these marvelous grace gifts!

Paul sums up the first three and a half chapters of Romans in Romans 3:19-20.

“Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth many be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.”

DID YOU KNOW ALL MEN ARE DEPRAVED AND NEED SALVATION?

WEEK-9 DAY-2

bench-605957_1280-2

We have entered one of,  if not the most controversial passages of Scripture when we enter Romans 3:10-18. Why do I say that? It is the most twisted and distorted among all men. This passage of Scripture teaches that all men everywhere are depraved and in need of salvation. All men are in need of being rescued from the wrath of God that rests on them, yet many think because they are “good” in the sense they help others, they try to live a moral life, God will NOT judge them! According to what we will see in this passage those who feel” this way are gravely mistaken!

We have spent much time in this series learning from Romans that all men, Jew, and Gentile, are in need of The Savior! Paul has written verse after verse explaining this great need of us all. He goes so far as to separate people into two groups to explain to them specifically there need. I love that Paul does not let anyone off the “hook” if you will! He has presented this message with great boldness and great love for his own countrymen, the Jew, and the Gentile.

Just because a person was raised in a Christian home does not make that person a Christian. Just because someone attends church every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night does not make them a Christian. Our identity in Christ is not who we are or what we do. Our identity is in Him! Paul is still addressing the Jews in Romans 3:3-8. Somewhere along the way some of the Jews had believed that just because he was a “Jew” and God had entrusted them with His word, and He had made Covenant promises with their people through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses, that was enough. The Jew, as well as the Gentile is in need of Christ and no amount of works or identity with a certain group  of people will accomplish this.

BOASTING IS GREAT BUT ONLY IF IT IS IN GOD!

WEEK-8 DAY-2

person-690112_1280-2

What does it mean to boast in something? The definition of boast is as follows: to talk with excessive pride and self-satisfaction about one’s achievements, possessions, or abilities. It is to brag or glory in something. All of us brag at one time or another; we brag about our kids, our spouses, our homes, our church families… but at the root, the core, of the word boast is PRIDE. I do not know about you but I am sitting here thinking, “Oh, pride not you again.” Pride seems to be involved in everything! At the center of all our sin, I believe anyway, is that self-seeking, self-boasting, pushy, monster PRIDE!

We just finished working through Romans chapter two where Paul spent much time teaching that by your works you will not be saved.( Paul will go into more detail on this topic as we enter chapter 4 of Romans.) He sums up chapter two by teaching that the true Jew, The true Christian, is one who has been circumcised in his heart. True circumcision or conversion is not an outward work of the flesh. It is a work done inwardly by the Holy Spirit not by man.

Paul’s whole point in these first three chapters of Romans is to call into account the Jew and the Gentile for their need of a Savior. In Romans 2:25-29, he specifically calls out the Jew. They had received the seal of circumcision through Abraham, and some Jews believed that the physical act circumcision was proof of their righteousness before God. Paul is saying, “NO!” Physical circumcision does not a Jew make! So, who is the true Jew?

DID YOU KNOW THE BIBLE SAYS WE CAN JUDGE?

wood-647594_1280

What is the difference between judge and JUDGE?

What a confusing question! If you have been around long enough or you are in any way keeping up with the times there is much confusion about, “JUDGING.” We all know that confusion comes from our enemy, “Satan” and not from God. I wound like to point out that most of the people using this verse are not Christians! I am not saying this to gloat I am saying this to draw our attention to the schemes of the devil. And to draw our hearts in prayer for their salvation! I would also like to point out that some believers are confused about this as well. We who understand need to be in prayer for the church, that God would show them the truth of His Word!

Have you ever met someone who because they were rich and came from a certain family line thought they were entitled to special treatment? Some people think because of the knowledge they possess  or because they hold a high position in a company that they are deserving of privileges. Parents deserve honor and respect from their children. Bosses and those who hold places of authority do deserve it as well. Those who are mature in age deserve our honor and respect. The Bible is clear, these positions are deserving of respect and honor. But, there is a difference in getting honor and respect  and expecting to be treated a certain way because of status.

Most people who quote Matthew 7:1, sadly, do not know the correct meaning of it. It is saying do not judge unrighteously, look at your own life before you  go to another brother and sister and unrighteously try to remove the speck that is in their eye.  There is a place for righteous judgment in the household of God! This passage in Matthew actually tells you to take the LOG out of your own eye, “Before” you take the speck out of your brothers or sisters eye.(Matthew 7:5) We must read all of Scripture or we will misinterpret their meaning.  If you are behaving in the same sin or any other sin but still judge your brother or sister Jesus says you are a, hypocrite! I am going to continue to stand on the need to teach the text even though it is not very uplifting. Those of us who have experienced God’s amazing grace know there is hope at the end of the tunnel, if you will allow me to say it that way!  There are those who have not heard the truth of their depravity or there are those who think that they are only a little depraved. God is telling all man that he is utterly helpless, utterly sinful, and most assuredly under His wrath and are in great need of grace. Not only saving grace but His daily grace.

I have made it my practice to never say, “I promise.” Because for many people, there are various reasons that promises can be broken. Sometimes it may be intentional, but at other times it is not. Either way, the promise is broken; which can result in hurt feelings, disappointment, and perhaps even distrust.
